This policy describes what Do I Snore (the “App”), published by RetiredInfoGeek, LLC (“we”), does with your information. The short version: the App records short audio clips while you sleep and keeps them on your iPhone. It has no server, no account, no ads and no analytics, it never connects to the internet, and we never receive anything from it. Nothing leaves your phone unless you choose to share it.
What the App records, and where it goes
- Audio clips. While a night is running, the App keeps the microphone open so iOS lets it continue with the screen locked. Audio is written to disk only during the short clips you have asked for (by default, six 30-second clips an hour). Each clip is saved as an ordinary audio file in the App’s own folder on your iPhone, along with the time it was taken and how loud it was. The sound between clips is not stored anywhere.
- Your settings (clips per hour, clip length, when to stop, loudness sensitivity) are stored on your device.
- Files app. The App’s folder is visible in the Files app under Do I Snore, and in the Finder when the phone is connected to a Mac, so you can copy or delete recordings yourself. This is a feature of your phone; it does not send anything to us.
- Sharing. “Stitch into one recording” joins a night’s clips into one audio file and hands it to the app you choose in the Share Sheet (Messages, Mail, AirDrop, and so on), and nowhere else. What happens to it after that is governed by the app you chose.
The App does not require an account, login, email address, or any personal information to work. It makes no network connections at all.
Microphone permission
The App asks for microphone access the first time you start a night. It uses the microphone only while a night is running or while you record a clip on demand, and iOS shows its recording indicator the whole time. You can withdraw the permission in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone; the App then cannot record.
Other people in the room
The microphone picks up anyone within earshot. If you share a bedroom, tell the people in it that the App is recording and make sure they are happy with that. Recording laws vary by place, and you are responsible for complying with the ones that apply to you.
What we do not do
- We do not receive, store, listen to or analyse your recordings. We have no way to.
- We do not show advertisements and do not use any advertising network.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone, and have not done so.
In Apple’s App Store privacy labels this is declared as “Data Not Collected”.
Health information
Recordings of your sleep may reveal things about your health. They stay on your phone under your control, and the App does not interpret them, does not diagnose any condition, and is not a medical device. The App does not read from or write to Apple Health.
Children
The App is rated 4+ and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your choices and rights
- Swipe a night in the Nights list to delete it, or use “Delete all nights” in Settings to remove every recording. Deleting the App removes all of its recordings and settings with it.
- If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, the recordings are included in that backup like any other app data, under Apple’s privacy policy. Deleting them in the App removes them from future backups.
- Residents of California, the EU/UK and other regions with privacy laws have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to provide or delete; everything is already on your phone and in your hands.
Changes
We will post changes to this page and update the date above. Material changes will also be noted in the App’s release notes.
